Owners of a beautiful period house in Toppesfield, Suffolk wanted a new shower room with a simple and clean design.

Challenge

Our client’s shower room was fitted many years ago and was in need of modernisation. They had seen a Corian® shower tray and really wanted to use the material for their new room. They were hoping to achieve a design with really clean lines that would look in keeping with the age of their home.

Due to the space of the room the layout was to remain the same. The client wanted a large walk-in shower at one end of the room and an updated vanity unit and sink at the other end. As well as a replacement radiator, flooring, tiling and lighting.

Solution

The space for the shower area was determined by the back wall of the room and the original floor to ceiling beams. We installed a shower with a flush Corian® tray and panelling with an added Corian® lip to prevent water seeping out onto the floor. Due to the limited ceiling height in the room the glass shower screen is a bespoke size, as is the diverter panel. The fixings for the shower screen were designed to be hidden behind one of the original vertical beams.

We used Porcelanosa ceramic tiles in ‘Ibiza’ matt white around the shower and throughout the room. The addition of the ClearShield protection on the glass of the shower panels also ensures that the glass remains hygienic, clean and sparkly.

The client wanted to have storage space for toiletries so we created niche areas to hide away products. One of the niches was created from an old storage cupboard which we removed, lined and in its place installed a light and shelf.

The shower includes a fixed showerhead and a wall mounted showerhead. The fixed showerhead is the Crosswater Reflex model and is designed to provide a powerful jet. The valves for the shower are placed on the wall as you enter the enclosure so you can switch the shower on without having to get wet.

Just outside the shower we installed a new radiator from Zehnder in matt white. The radiator’s piping was hidden from view, ensuring clean lines in the room.

The vanity unit, from The Bathroom Furniture Company, has a more traditional design with painted wood and provides a drawer and storage under the basin. The basin is from Villeroy & Boch and is sitting on a Corian® unit top. The mirror above is designed to match the style and colour of the vanity unit.

The flooring was in bad condition. We replaced it with a more hard wearing, wood effect flooring in ‘Limed Oak Washed’ from Karndean.

The wall lights, also traditional in style, are from the Astro Lighting company.

“The room now feels cleaner and brighter and up to date. I’m pleased that our client is so delighted with the result. I am looking forward to working with our client on their next bathroom project very soon.”
