A highly practical kitchen with sleek, clean lines for a retired couple in Sudbury.

Challenge

Our client wanted a clean design for their kitchen that would be be practical and easy to maintain. Their previous kitchen had been free standing and shaker style which meant constant maintenance to keep it looking clean. As owners of two gorgeous Sprocker Spaniels, cleanliness and low maintenance was important as well as the opportunity to add some of their lively personality to the kitchen’s appearance.

Solution

Understanding that ease of use was paramount, we suggested a Beckermann kitchen with smooth, flat panel doors that are easy to clean. The solid lacquered cabinets were combined with German laminate work surfaces to create seamless clean lines. A neutral colour was chosen for the cabinets to make the room seem as light as possible. Under cabinet and ceiling spot lights also helped to brighten the room.

Practical considerations drove the design of this project. The work surfaces were made to the customer’s bespoke specification with rounded off corners to avoid sharper square edges as their grandchildren often visit. The eye level oven was important to our customer to help make cooking easier.

Karndean flooring with a diagonal pattern, added a personal touch to the flooring and additional warmth that you don’t get from tiles.

The overall appearance of modern, clean lines was complimented with a red glass splash back behind the cooker that added a unique finishing touch to the room. The owners bought other red coloured accessories to match.

I am really glad that my customer is happy with their new kitchen. The eye level oven makes such a difference to cooking. No-one goes back to a built under oven! Karndean flooring is a personal favourite of mine. It’s a great solution for practical people – it’s really easy to maintain and much warmer under foot than you’d imagine.
