The Challenge

Our clients came to us for a kitchen for their holiday/second home in Aldeburgh. They wanted a traditional yet contemporary feel, and the space had to be suitable for hosting family and friends on a regular basis.

The Solution

We had a large space to work with, as they were extending out into the garden to create a spacious kitchen and dining area, with plenty of natural light flooding in.

They fell in love with Stoneham’s Aspen Oak painted door and settled on their enhanced grain finish painted in Dove Grey to give a soft and modern feel, with Blue Hague on the island to create impact and add a pop of colour and a nod to the seaside location. The Silestone worktops in Lagoon compliment the colour scheme and provide a practical and durable surface.

We incorporated a small, discreet seating area on the island itself, enough space to tuck away two stools and create a social environment in the cooking space. The 2.8 metre island combines working space with visual features, with a secondary single oven built under, along with secondary sink (perfect for vegetable preparation and hand washing whilst cooking) and integrated bins. Everything is within easy reach of the induction hob and ovens, giving a very ergonomic cooking space. The other side is dedicated more to aesthetics, with lit glass units, again finished in beautiful Blue Hague, this softens the look of such a large piece of furniture and helps blend it into the dining space.

To give a symmetrical look, we centred the hob to the island and framed it with two oven housings, drawers running along the entire length giving ample space for pots, pans and utensils. The powerful, yet quiet, Novy extractor is tucked away in the wall units above. The Silestone splashback gives a beautiful, seamless and easy to clean area behind the hob.

The large bank of tall units houses a beautiful hidden pantry, finished in solid oak and with PIR sensor lighting, large appliances can be used and stored here, as well as cooking essentials. Integrated tall fridge and freezer give ample cold food storage and within easy reach of the island for loading and unloading.

The sink run underneath the window gives a separate “wet area” with double Blanco silgranit sink and integrated dishwasher, so mess can be easily cleared away at the end of a meal, or during preparation, without interrupting the cooking area.
